Welcome to Medjed.nekoweb.org
Hello. This is my personal website that I made so I can practice coding and write about my interests. Like others on the indie web, I'm not a huge fan of social media, so it's nice to create my own space away from that here.
While I have put effort into making my site work for various different displays/resolutions, it might not look as intended on certain screens. If anything looks funky for you I'd appreciate if you let me know so I can try to fix it! You can contact me through my comments section below or on discord (my username is niesagashi).
This site is an eternal work in progress. Unfortunately updates are very inconsistent.

Basic Accessibility Options Menu Added
Sorry for the lack of updates recently! I'm working on my 'About Me' page still. There's now a basic options menu on the homepage, where you can toggle the music, scanlines, static, and marquees.

Working on an options menu
Mentioned previously in the changelog, but I had plans to add an accessibility options menu. Worked on that a little bit. It's not done yet though so it's hidden for the time being.

VERY Slight Improvements to Mobile
The Landing Page and Credits page were both edited a bit to appear better on mobile devices. I still wouldn't say they're mobile friendly though. I'm learning how to make it so my website is usable on mobile but I can't say for certain when I'll get round to making the homepage work for that. Sorry to any mobile users.

Working on better accessibility.
This is still a WIP, but so far pretty much everything now should have adequate colour contrast, and images now have alt text. I've been using WAVE to check my site for things to adjust.I plan to add a menu with options to toggle (e.g. dyslexia font, disable GIFs/marquees) but that isn't done yet.
My site is still far away from being accessible to people who use screenreaders, have impaired vision, have cognitive disabilities, etc. but I promise I'm working on it.
Not related to accessibility, but I also changed the selection colour. It's now grey instead of blue. I also added a basic credits page.

• Fixed guestbook comments not appearing.

• Fixed 'Nekoweb Stats' widget.
• Other minor misc tweaks.

Launched the site. Although only the landing page and homepage are functional so far.
May 2024
Began developing the site.
What is Medjed?
The name of this site, 'Medjed' comes from a very minor Ancient Egyptian Deity.
Medjed appeared in The Book of The Dead, a collection of spells to help with the journey through Duat (the underworld) to the afterlife. Not much is known about him, all we really have to go by is the following quote:
"I know the name of that smiter among them who belongs to the House of Osiris, who shoots with his eyes, yet is unseen. The sky is encircled with the fiery blast of his mouth and Hāpi makes report, yet he is unseen."
So, what we know is that Medjed is an unseen entity who can shoot eye beams at you. That is basically it. That may make you wonder, if Medjed can't be seen, how was he drawn in the scrolls?
Yeah... so presumably the idea was that since he is unseen, he would be drawn covered with cloth, although he ended up looking more like a little cartoon ghost with legs. His simple design might be what makes him stand out the most, however, another thing that's strange about Medjed is that he's shown facing forwards, Ancient Egyptian Deitys were always depicted facing sideways. There is currently no known reason for why Medjed is different.
Medjed in Pop Culture
You probably already recognized the name Medjed from Persona 5 or Fate/Grand Order. This is because Medjed became pretty well-known within Japanese pop culture around 2012, after there was an Ancient Egypt exhibit held at Mori Arts Center Gallery that displayed the Greenfield Papyrus.
People noticed Medjed's cartoonish appearance, and from there started making fanart and posting it online. References to him began popping up in anime and games. Some examples aside from Persona and FGO that I have found of Medjed in media are in the games Puzzle & Dragons and Aura Kingdom.
In terms of media more centered around Medjed, there are two anime which are about Medjed and other Egyptian Gods: Kamigami no Ki and Toutotsu ni Egypt Shin.
Probably one of the most ridiculous things that spawned out of this was a 4-koma manga and otome game from Goodia Inc. called 'Ejikomi! ~My boyfriend is a handsome Egyptian god!~' and 'Ejikoi! ~Let's fall in love with an Egyptian God!~' respectively.
Saving the best for last, of course Medjed got a moe gijinka. And yes, I love her. These are from a Line Sticker Pack.
I hope this was at least somewhat interesting. All linked pages here have been saved to the web archive so if any of them are down in the future, you should still be able to see them.
